Have you heard of the connection between Pilates and the circus? Increasingly, circus artists have used Pilates to improve breathing, strength, balance, and stabilization techniques. On the other hand, Pilates fans have sought inspiration in the circus to make different classes, much more dynamic and fun. In some cases, even acrobatic.

Pilates and the circus “We need a lot of strength and control, which are the essence of the Pilates method. If the person has no balance, he cannot control the body ”,

FORMATION OF THE PILATES METHOD WITH THE ART OF MOVEMENT

Many artists’ first approach to the Pilates Method came in the interest of healing their physical injuries. A case with a profound historical and inspiring value is that of Eve Gentry.

Eve Gentry was born in 1910 in the city of San Bernadino, California and was a dancer and disciple of the first generation of Joseph Pilates.

After moving to New York and starting her own ballet company, Eve suffered serious knee and back injuries, and in search of rehabilitation, she found Pilates in 1955.

Then she underwent a radical mastectomy operation, removed all breast and pectoral muscles, but was only able to treat herself through constant and disciplined practice of Pilates.

AND WHAT IS MOVEMENT?

The human movement played a major role in the evolution of man, who from its earliest origin felt the need to communicate with his fellowmen through the body, to spontaneously express his own feelings and needs.

The movement results in the most authentic way of the intermediate relationship between expression and communication.

Human bodies talk about themselves, which they do every day. They talk about their illnesses, fears, habits, how life is perceived. They show the emotions that afflict you and also happiness.

The benefits of physical activity not only depend on the movements performed, but on their quality and integration of the principles in the daily routine, work and life in general.

The movement makes us feel good, purified, able, fit, in deep connection and communion with life. It reveals new ways of perceiving ourselves and what we can create, control, feel, and experience.

UNION OF ART WITH PILATES

Through a deliberate and careful study of the Pilates Method, artists of the art of movement can obtain a clear view of human anatomy applied to the movement of the essential, biomechanical bases and repertoires of Pilates.

In choreographic Pilates, many points of view are currently published, both against and in support of the idea of the Pilates Method as an artistic expression.

PILATES AS A TOOL FOR ARTISTS

Each one must find his own way for the integration and discovery of Pilates in his artistic life, the instructor needs to guide and set an objective with the student, to get to know him better and discover what he seeks in the Pilates Method.

The goals of the artists can be both the improvement of their technique, through the strengthening of the lower limbs, the stability of the body, as the conscious work of the muscles, increased flexibility, greater alignment and control, thus increasing the concentration and awareness of your body from static to dynamic.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONING

The Pilates Method helps to improve the physical and mental conditions of the artist.

However, it is important to note that to gain strength or flexibility and add extra hours of work when you are in a demanding training regime, it does not guarantee the success of a movement artist.

The instructor must respect the limits of the student’s body to assist during training.
