The epidemic of the new coronavirus, in addition to another hundred countries with confirmed cases. Because it is a completely new infectious agent, there is still no fully effective treatment to combat it and prevent the spread of Covid-19, the official name of the disease caused by it.

There are some measures that must be taken to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further, which mainly involve social withdrawal and the issue of hygiene, in addition to the isolation of people who have the symptoms.

What is the coronavirus?

Coronavirus is the generic name given to a family of viruses that causes respiratory infections. In this case, we are facing a 2019-nCoV epidemic, which emerged in late November 2019 in Wuhan, China, and was identified in late December. Since then, the virus has reached the four inhabited continents, being considered by the World Health Organization to be a pandemic.

Symptoms of Covid-19

Covid-19 is the name given to the disease caused by the 2019-nCoV virus. Its symptoms are very similar to those of a common flu, in some cases it can cause infections in the lower respiratory tract, such as pneumonia.

It is mainly characterized by the occurrence of high fever, dry cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.

How to prevent contagion by coronavirus

Social withdrawal

Analyzing the data provided by the governments of several countries that have been facing the epidemic for a longer time and the measures taken, it has been proven that social exclusion is one of the most important measures to prevent it from spreading.

It is recommended, even for those who do not have any symptoms of Covid-19, to avoid crowds of people. It is also not advisable to greet others with touches of the hand, hug or kiss.

Try to use e-commerce to avoid having to go out on the street and avoid sharing objects even indoors. If it is necessary to leave the house, try to keep a distance of at least 1.5m from other people.

Personal hygiene

The most effective weapon against this virus is to wash your hands with soap and water. This is because the soap breaks with the outermost barrier of the coronavirus, which is formed by lipids (fat), preventing it from binding to cells and, consequently, killing it.

Therefore, wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds whenever you touch objects that come from other people’s hands, such as money. Wash not only the palms of the hands, but also the back, between the fingers, under the nails and also the wrists.

Gel alcohol is also effective in combating the coronavirus, as it dehydrates the lipid membrane and eliminates it. He is a great ally when you are away from home and you cannot wash your hands.

It is also important to avoid contact of the hand with the face, as the virus cannot penetrate the person’s skin, but can enter the body through the airways or mucous membranes such as the eyes and mouth. One trick is to always use your non-dominant hand to open doors, turn on lights or touch other objects that are more exposed.

In your Pilates Studio, provide alcohol gel for the hygiene of clients and instructors, in addition to recommending everyone to wash their hands when they arrive and at the end of the practice.

Respiratory label

In addition to contamination through contact, we can contract Covid-19 by breathing close to people who are already infected. So it is also important to remember the so-called respiratory etiquette. Always cover your face when coughing or sneezing.

If you have symptoms, it is recommended to use a mask to avoid contagion from other people.

Hygiene of the Pilates Studio

Just as important as washing your hands or protecting your face when sneezing is to clean all the equipment, accessories and surfaces of your Pilates Studio frequently. That’s because the virus survives 6 to 24 hours on surfaces. Just as for personal hygiene, soap is your greatest ally.

Use a part of mild soap for two parts of water and apply with a spray to all surfaces to be cleaned, let it act for a few seconds and remove with a clean cloth.

You can also use alcohol gel, but be careful. After all, it can cause dryness and stains on the upholstery and wood of your equipment. In this case, avoid applying the product in excess and dry completely after application. Only the metal parts are not harmed by alcohol.

This hygiene routine must happen every time, before and after the use of equipment and accessories. Also don’t forget to sanitize springs, handles, pedals, and other parts.

For floors and other surfaces, use bleach, disinfectant, chlorine-based or alcohol-based multipurpose cleaners to perform periodic cleaning.

I think I got the coronavirus, what to do?

You can infect other patients with more fragile health conditions or even contract the virus if it were not your case.

In most cases, you will have to perform home isolation and you should only seek medical help in case of worsening symptoms. Even the test that detects the coronavirus has only been applied in these cases since the number of kits available is not enough to serve the entire population.
