How did the idea for Aeropilates come about?

Created by the Spanish Rafael Martínez, AeroPilates originated from the union of techniques related to Yoga and Pilates. It is a safe, effective and controlled method, which works the body as a whole, toning small and superficial, deep and large muscle groups. This new technique follows the same principles as the traditional method, however, we use the “columpio”, which is used both as a facilitator in the execution of certain exercises, as well as to challenge the practitioner to the correct performance of the movements and balance due to the great generated instability. The equipment that is fixed to the ceiling is formed by two handles for hands and feet, two ropes and a large swing, produced with ultralight and very resistant fabric.

The Benefits of AeroPilates:

Increased Physical and Mental Endurance
Increased Flexibility
Improves posture and Corrects Postural Problems
Increased Concentration
Tones Muscle
Improves Motor Coordination and Body Awareness
Relieves Muscle Pain
Helps Improve Breathing
Helps Prevent Osteoporosis

The advantages in the practice of AeroPilates are numerous, people who suffer from back pain are greatly favored due to the decompression that the inverted positions promote. The correct body alignment in the execution of the movements makes the exercises much more profitable and safe. Strength gains occur due to the resistance of the body’s own weight, increasing muscle tone. There is also a significant increase in body flexibility.

In this modality, the practitioners are suspended on colored fabric ribbons – an accessory called Columbia -, where they perform pilates exercises and also yoga postures. Aeropilates brings influences and principles from different techniques, among them, of course, classical pilates, yoga, and contemporary dance.

The method is divided into 3 variants: Aeroioga – holistic variant. Aeropilates – technical variant. Aerofitness – aerobic variant.

For those who want to improve flexibility, posture and muscle strengthening, pilates is a great alternative. There are several types of exercise, one of which is aerial pilates.

The focus of aerial pilates is for participants to know their bodies wisely. In this way, there is a mixture of the principles of pilates, circus, ballet, physical therapy and functional training to achieve the most difficult musculature and align the body.

To carry out the movements, a tissue involved in the body is used, as if you were “flying”, which allows to facilitate or hinder the exercises. Thus, it is possible to release the spine, the joints in general and the weight that falls on the pelvic region.
